VALPOI: The Health Department’s STEMI (ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction) initiative has helped save the lives of at least 80 heart patients from Sattari in the last three years.
Starting in 2018, at Valpoi Community Health Centre, STEMI has been a panacea for immediate response post heart attacks. The department will soon expand and amplify the facility, said sources.
A special meet of the 80 odd patients, who had received this treatment, was organised on Tuesday. The doctors and health officers recorded the health parameters of these patients. They were also informed about further courses of treatment and maintenance of diet etc.
Dr Shyam Kankonkar said that a special injection is given to patients immediately after a heart attack in order to stabilise their condition. The government should provide such facilities at the rural health centres, said Dr Kankonkar.
