The carcass disposal posed nuisance and a health hazard as the entire locality was hit by foul odour. Bones were also found dumped on the building housing the beef stalls.
Local Margao Municipal ward Councillor Rosy Pereira along with MMC sanitary inspector Viraj Arabekar inspected the spot, only to find the stinking environment in the market.
Condemning the incident, Ward Councillor Pereira said the market was cleaned up only recently, adding that disposal of the animal carcass in a spot used for dumping of agricultural waste speaks about the sad state of affairs.
The Municipal inspector said he would call a meeting with the main suspect to impress upon him not to dispose off the carcass and bones in a public place. “They might be slaughtering the animals illegally for consumption, but they just cannot dispose of the waste anywhere they want”, Arabekar said.
The incident also brings to light that illegal slaughtering of animals is taking place in the Gandhi market.
