MARGAO: A 16-year-old girl from a village in Salcete was repeatedly raped by her stepfather and molested by her step uncle, who have been arrested and remanded in police custody for interrogation.
According to police sources, the family is from Andhra Pradesh and was residing in Salcete. The mother of the girl, who works in a Gulf country, had left her daughter under the care of her husband and his brother.
PSI Prashant Bhagat, who is investigating the case, said that the duo has been arrested for sexually assaulting the
girl. He said that the stepfather has been arrested for allegedly raping her and the uncle has been arrested for molesting her.
The Maina-Curtorim police have registered the offence under Sections 376, 376(3) and 354-A of the IPC, Sections 8(2) and 8(9) of the Goa
Children’s Act, and Sections 4 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The police on Thursday produced both of them before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Margao and obtained four days’ remand for further investigation.
According to the police, the minor victim girl said that her stepfather and her step uncle were sexually assaulting her from December 2020 to January 29, 2024. The police said that she has been sent for medical examination at the Goa Medical College (GMC) Bambolim and a medical report is awaited. The police have also seized some material from their house.
