MARGAO: Margao MLA Digambar Kamat while assuring that all roads in Margao will be hot-mixed before the onset of monsoons said there is still time to plan strategies for the municipal elections and expressed happiness that reservation will not be done at the eleventh hour this year as used to happen earlier.
Speaking to the media persons, Kamat refused to elaborate on the plans for the municipal elections in Margao stating that the party will have to decide upon the matter considering all the municipalities and not only Margao but he did not rule out a tie-up with any other force.
“Last time I have candidates under Model Margao and in Fatorda they had We for Fatorda so let us see what happens this time,” he said adding that the decision will have to be taken following discussion with the party leaders.
“A political party is prepared for elections any time as that is the purpose of a political party,” he said while expressing happiness that this time thanks to some councillors moving the court that the government will have to declare the reserved wards at least 21 days before the elections.
Speaking about the works done in Margao, Kamat said all the roads in the town will be hot-mixed by April end and will be perfect for the monsoons. He listed out the works that will be undertaken and said the only stretch that may remain was from Lohia Maidan to the Electricity Department building in Aquem.
“Under the Central Water Resources Department, a cyclone relief home is being constructed next to Bal Bhavan, which would also be used as classrooms for the Bal Bhavan students when nobody is housed in the rooms constructed there,” he added.
He said, “The Goa Tourism Development Corporation has taken up illumination in a big way and four-arm fixtures are erected at 20 different junctions in Margao while the one near Costa ground will have six-arm lamps.”
