VASCO: In a shocking incident, a couple abandoned their stillborn baby girl in the bushes opposite St Andrew’s Church at Vasco on Saturday afternoon.
According to reports, some eyewitnesses noticed Ravindra and Sharmila Gadge coming out of the bushes near the bus stop in a suspicious manner at about 2 pm. Suspecting something fishy, the eyewitnesses confronted the couple and alerted the Vasco police.
A police team then took custody of the couple and during interrogation, the couple admitted having dumped their stillborn baby in the bushes. The Vasco police managed to locate the stillborn from the bushes and summoned a 108 ambulance. Attendants of the 108 ambulance checked for the vital signs of the baby, before confirming that the baby was dead.
During interrogations, the couple informed police that the baby had been delivered at the Chicalim Cottage Hospital (CCH) and that, the child was born dead. The couple added that the doctor at the hospital had handed over the child to them for the final rites.
When contacted, doctors at CCH confirmed that Sharmila delivered the child at around 10 am on Saturday and at the time of delivery, the child was stillborn.
“After preparing the death certificate, the hospital handed over the stillborn baby to Ravindra for the final rites,” said a doctor. “Radvindra then took his wife against medical advice from the hospital.”
Vasco police has registered an offence against the couple and is further investigating the case.
