VASCO: Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha on Monday informed that after the complaint lodged by the villagers and the subsequent site inspection carried out by GCZMA in the property bearing survey no. 71/1, in the village of Velsao, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has issued a Show Cause Notice cum Stop Work Order under section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act to the developers.
“It has also been observed that the CRZ clearance obtained by the proponent in 2006 has lapsed and the same has not been renewed as per the procedures, in violation of the Environment Act, 1986, and therefore, the GCZMA has issued the Stop Work Notice and a personal hearing before the Authority which fixed for June 12, 2018, during which the developers will have to explain their stand vis-à-vis the CRZ rules and regulations,” Saldanha said.
She further added that “The notice has been received by the developers and I expect the work to come to a halt. Finally, I also want to request the villagers to be vigilant and remain united until such time the matter is solved.”
