PANJIM: Even as reports of hoteliers and shack owners receiving direct extortion demands for playing loud music beyond 10 pm surface, the Goa Police top brass is steadfast in ‘toeing’ the official position that without a complaint this is a non issue.
However, North Goa SP Nidhin Valsan at least offered hope by saying inquiries have commenced. “We have not received any complaint in the matter but we are trying to find out the truth in the allegations of extortion that are being made. Only after we get some information we will take necessary steps,” he said adding, “We will make sure that these things will not happen.”
Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh said, “I cannot comment because nobody has approached me nor there is a complaint. If the MLA (Lobo) has information then he should have written DO to me.”
When asked why police cannot investigate suo motu, DGP Singh said, “I am not the High Court or Supreme Court to do that. I move only when somebody makes a complaint to me.”
