Stormy scenes at CMC meet

CUNCOLIM: There was a war of words witnessed at the bi-monthly meeting of the Cuncolim Municipal Council held between the Chairperson and Opposition Councillor Udesh Dessai.

The marathon meeting had both the warring parties trading charges against each other as a result of which important issues could not be discussed.

Dessai alleged that Naik never allows the people’s representatives to speak about their grievances and demanded that the fees collected in the form of taxes should be used to pay timely employees to the workers and asked why development should be done by keeping the workers hungry.

Some councillors stated that kiosks selling food items here were not maintaining hygiene and demanded that those erected in the market and on footpaths should be shifted to the parking lot.

The meeting also decided to levy one month’s rent and garbage charges one landlords who rented out the houses.  It was agreed at this time to spend funds to bring the materials required for the relocation of the municipal office to the new building.
