PONDA: It will be a straight fight between two BJP councillors for Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) chairperson’s post scheduled on Tuesday (May 18).

BJP councillors namely Ritesh Naik, son of Ponda MLA Ravi Naik and Shantaram Colvekar have filed their nominations for the post. Sources informed that Ritesh is likely to become PMC chairperson.

It is pertinent to note that the post fell vacant following the resignation of the then chairperson Vishwanath Dalvi. Goa Forward Party has already voiced its opposition to BJP-backed chairperson.

Chief Officer Pradeep Naik said he has received two nominations one from Ritesh and the other from Shantaram for chairperson’s post scheduled on May 18, in the PMC hall.

The candidates will be granted 15 minutes to withdraw their candidature. If there is no withdrawal then the election will be held via ballot paper.
