PANJIM: While a property dispute is believed to have led to the double murder at St Cruz, the gruesome incident has also uncovered the alleged strained relationship between the deceased, Noreen Fernandes e Vaz, and her husband, Edgar.
Noreen, who was murdered along with her mother-in-law, Aurita Vaz, was allegedly being counseled regarding her troubled marriage by a former member of Goa State Commission for Women (GSCW).
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source said: “I was counselling Noreen, after she had a troubled relationship with her husband, Edgar, who is presently hospitalized after he was severely injured in the attack.”
Admitting having received a courtesy message from Noreen on August 30, the source described the brutal murders on Tuesday night as “shocking”.
“I was shocked by the double murder as I was counseling her to reconcile with her husband. The couple had apparently also patched up,” the source added.
Incidentally, the former GSCW member had to intervene in a car theft case that Noreen had filed against her husband Edgar at the Old Goa police station some months ago.
“She had complained that her husband had stolen her car. Noreen was paying the installments for the car from her savings,” the source said.
The source informed that Noreen worked abroad before her marriage.
Incidentally, Noel Fernandes, who was earlier arrested in connection with the murder, is reported to be the brother-in-law of Norman, the prime suspect in the case.
It may be recalled that a family dispute over property matters came to a gruesome end when Norman Fernandes of Bambolim had allegedly stabbed his sister, Noreen, and her mother-in-law, Aurita, to death, besides seriously wounding his brother-in-law, Edgar, at their residence in Santa Cruz on Monday night. Norman is also reported to have inflicted wounds on himself, before fleeing from the site.
