MAPUSA: Stray cattle who sit on the road were found to have have destroyed the plastic road dividers placed at the Mapusa- Bastora underpass by the authorities.
It may recalled that after Herald had reported about the dangers faced by commuters at this junction, the said dividers had been installed.
Two months after the underpass along the NH-17 at Tar-Bastora junction was thrown open to the public it came to light that it is turning out to be a dangerous spot for commuters as there was no divider there. Vehicles were seen moving in and out of this underpass in a haphazard manner, which could have led to a major tragedy.
For better management of transport and safety of commuters on this route plastic road dividers were placed seven months ago.
However, it was discovered recently that the stray cattle who are seen sitting at this spot round-the-clock had laid waste the said traffic arrangements.
hese plastic road dividers at the Mapusa- Bastora underpass had come as a sigh of relief for the locals traveling on that route on a regular basis.
A local, Pravin Shirodkar told Herald that one has to cross through the Mapusa- Bastora underpass very carefully as there are cattle situated there.
“These cattle are seen sitting here in the morning as well as night. It becomes dangerous for people traveling on this route at night as they cannot even see these cattle sometimes.  Even the provision made for the pedestrian-friendly footpaths is being utilised by the stray cattle. The authorities concerned need to ensure that the cattle owners do not leave their cattle unattended on the streets,” added Pravin.
