Stray cattle menace in Karapur-Sarvan

The stray cattle menace in the Karapur-Sarvan panchayat is reportedly on the rise with the people expressing surprise over the apathy of the panchayat in solving the same.
A number of cattle owners in Karapur-Sarvan have reportedly let loose their cattle thereby posing problem to the commuters. The problem is caused especially at night when these cattle squat along the road posing serious threat to the traffic.
In the village there several accident cases have been reported. The cattle are also found sit on the highway connecting Bicholim and Sanquelim thereby further aggravating the problem.
“It is very risky to commute along this road, especially during the night as the cattle are seen squatting on the road,” a commuter complained.
It may be noted that the panchayat body on October 26, 2016 had passed a resolution to impound the cattle and send the same to the Go Savardhan Kendra at Valpoi but till date nothing has happened.
When contacted, deputy sarpanch Dheeraj Sawant informed that the panchayat is helpless in this regard. “We had taken a decision but when we go to impound the cattle, the owners come and question us as to why we are impounding them.”
“Following cattle deaths in road accidents, the owners contact us for their disposal. But we get only Rs 1,000 voucher for this work and two workers cannot dispose of the carcass. The government should increase the fund to the panchayats and the cattle owners should also be more responsible in this regard only then this problem can be solved,” he stated.
