Stray dog menace at Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex worries local staff

Say dogs are given leftover food; fear canine attacks on visitors and the employees working there

MARGAO: There has been a spurt in presence of stray dogs in the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex, office of District Collector, South Goa at Margao, with the canines being found inside the building, heightening the risk of dog bites.

Stray dogs are seen wandering right from ground floor to fourth floor and even inside the toilets as well. While South Goa is already battling with the menace from stray dogs and cattle, the situation in the building which houses many government offices has locals worried.

Some of the workers working in the offices located within the Administrative Complex, said that fellow workers who bring their lunch and also people who eat at canteen, feed the dogs leftovers. Some workers also bring food specifically for the dogs. These dogs can get aggressive and bite the visitors and the staff working there.

Some of the government employees working there said that senior officials need to take action before any untoward incident occurs.

Meanwhile, the issue of stray dogs and bovines has continued to be alarming in South Goa. These animals have been the cause for some of the road mishaps in recent times.
