Stray dog menace on rise in Ponda

Local hospital treats 2 or 3 persons for dog bite daily

PONDA: Stray dog menace is on the rise in Ponda, with the Sub District Hospital in the town treating two or three dog bite cases daily. 
Medical Superintendent Dr Vikas Kuvelkar said, “We treat two or three patients with dog bite every day. There is rise in dog bites as compared to past years. In January this year, there were 90 dog bite cases, in Feb 92 cases, May 74, June 78 cases, July 66 cases, in August there were 40 cases, September 51 cases and October 86.”
Local Sanjay Naik said that to control the menace, the government should take effective steps to control the population of stray dogs. The stray dogs often chase two-wheeler riders and bite the people walking alone on the road.
