PANJIM: Street Providence Goa is reaching out to survivors of the Wayanad Landslide disaster. They are sending cash, dry ration and essential items to assist those who have been devastated due to the natural disaster and rendered homeless and are now living in camps.
Bosco George, former DIG and volunteer of Street Providence said, “We hear the call of the people who are in difficult position and require assistance and reach out to them. Few days back we reached out to the people in Sindhudurg upon the appeal of the Archbishop of Sindhudurg. We have now got appeals from the Dioceses of Calicut and Kannur. We cannot refuse and we are going to the furthest point, to the tip of Kerala. As of now we have sent money to the diocese of Kannur to pay for the people staying in the camps, so that their food and other needs are taken care of.”

“On August 13, we will be flagging off a truck with dry ration and all other items, so that it can reach the people who are in the camps. They are grateful that the people of Goa through Street Providence are helping them in times of trouble,” Bosco George told O Heraldo.
Donald Fernandes, Managing Trustee, Street Providence stated, “In Kannur we have created a food bank kitchen in one of the camps which is just outside Wayanad district. There are close to 127 people in the camp. We have bought Rs 3 lakh worth dry ration for that area and undertaken to run that camp and see that people get three meals a day.”
“Simultaneously we have put out an appeal for blankets, mats and grocery items. This will go to Calicut Diocese. So Calicut Diocese we will take care of relief and in Kannur Diocese, we will take care of the food. The first truck will leave for Kerala on August 13, at 10am. It will be flagged off by Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai. We will send three or four trucks –one truck every week. We have 19 collection points all over Goa. We are not collecting clothes and old things. The poor people are disturbed, so we insist that we give them something new.”
