PANJIM: The Street Providence Trust in its second mission, dispatched a truck loaded with essential supplies to relief camps in Manipur, with a special focus on Churachandpur, also called Lamka.
The truck was blessed by Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas and was ceremoniously flagged off by the South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha. The truck was flagged off from St Diego Church grounds, Guirim, in the presence of Street Providence trustees, benefactors, volunteers, well-wishers, and staff.
The truck carried relief material worth Rs 25 lakh and consisted of Lactogen milk powder, biscuits, stationery, blankets, chicken sausages, sleeping mats, socks, innerwear, and other miscellaneous items.
A dedicated team of four volunteers from the Street Providence Trust is scheduled to leave for Manipur on September 28. Their mission is to reach Churachandpur, Manipur, and actively participate in the distribution of these relief supplies to displaced women, children, and infants residing in the relief camps, providing them with much-needed assistance and support.
Ever since the violence erupted in Manipur, Goans and well wishers are supporting the NGO in supplying and reaching out to people who are living relief camps.
This time around five churches from Goa collected material for Street Providence Manipur relief in kind. Three schools as part of Teachers Day programme avoided flowers and gifts and contributed in kind towards the relief.
Besides this volunteers from 10 such collection centres run by Franciscan Missionaries of Christ the King (FMCK) nuns, extended a helping hand in collecting relief material which was much needed for the displaced people in Manipur.
As severe winter is around the corner, Street Providence has now launched a blanket collection drive to reach out to thousands of people in the relief camps.
