MARGAO: Raia locals have accused some panchas of displaying “favouritism” by fitting street lights in their respective areas and neglecting Manora Raia and other areas in the village.
The villagers have demanded that the panchayat and the Electricity Department fix the streetlights in these areas too before the upcoming Carnival.
During the Carnival celebrations, the villages across Salcete wear a different look as the  celebrations continue till night.
Residents of Manora Raia have accused the panchas of displaying favouritism by fitting street light fixtures in their areas while the main streets in the village have been left in the dark. “How can the panchayat expect that all the people will come begging to them for streetlights? This is totally wrong and has to stop forthwith,” said Anthony Fernandes from Raia.
The villagers have also demanded that the work of fitting streetlights be reverted back to the Electricity Department.
Manuel Quadros said, “It’s carnival time in the village and our village doesn’t have the streetlights in place. Villagers demand that the work of the streetlights should be expedited and completed before Carnival”.
