PANJIM: The three-day lockdown in the State, announced by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, came into force on Thursday night. The lockdown, an attempt to contain the spread of coronovirus infection, will continue till 6am on Monday.
All shops selling essentials and establishments will remain open, except between the night curfew hours of 9pm to 6am. Also restaurant kitchens will be allowed to provide home delivery and takeaways.
However industries, factories and other essential services like medical stores, government offices, banks, fuel pumps, LPG cylinder services will function.
Mass gatherings, cinema halls, theatres, boat cruises, casinos, community halls, parks, gymnasiums have been banned during the lockdown.
By Thursday evening markets and public places such as Miramar beach wore an almost deserted look as people preferred to stay home. State-owned KTC buses functioned but there was hardly any rush.
The State government has already declared micro-containment zones at many places and have sealed them besides restricting public movement within the containment zones.
