PANJIM: Goa Network, an organisation working on women and children’s issues, flagged concerns over rising violence against women, children and transgender, on Monday. The network urged the citizens to vote for the people committed to gender issues.

Focusing on the four major aspects that are policies, legislations, implementing mechanism and budget allocation, Sabina Martins said, “The State should have zero tolerance to domestic violence, sexual violence and harassment. A policy framed must be such that it should take preventive and punitive measures to ensure safety of women”.

Stating that the grassroot experiences must be taken into consideration while formulating the laws, Rashida Muzawar said, “Counsellors must be posted at every taluka hospitals to serve the women facing violence”.

“The provisions for women should not take the shape of charity under schemes but legislated for as right of woman”, she added.

Adding to this Albertina Almeida said, “There should be reservation within the reservation for woman at the Parliament so that women from weaker section of society get an opportunity to represent”.

“Each Taluka must have a designated gender office to address grievances of women. There must be a State run shelter home, open shelters in major towns, proper arrangement for free shelter, waiting rooms at railway stations and bus stands exclusively for women, adequate facilities at the institutions such as Apna Ghar and free drop service at night when public transport is not available”, demanded Grace Rodrigues.
