Striving to promote good tourism by preserving beaches: CM

Says tourism master plan will be completed shortly

MAPUSA: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that the government is striving towards promoting good tourism by preserving the beaches and heritage. He also said that the tourism master plan would be completed within a short span.
“The safety, security and happiness of the tourists are of utmost important to us. Besides the police, the government has hired an agency, Drishti to safeguard the tourists at the beaches. We have been promoting tourism in the various sectors. We have welcomed medical and sports tourism. In the future, we plan to make amendment in the law for medical tourism. Half of the population is dependent on the tourism industry; hence, all the stakeholders are being helped by the government,” Sawant said at the inaugural function of the Goa International Travel Mart (GITM) 2019 at Arpora on Wednesday evening.
“GTDC and the tourism department are taking care of improving the tourism related activities in our State. GTDC has an App for all tourism destinations and for taxi services. We have people from across16 countries visiting India and half of them come to Goa. We will be coming up with a new convention centre at Dona Paula with modern facilities. We will help tourists with accommodation at that centre. We have also reduced the price of e-Visa and GST,” he added.
GTDC Managing Director Nikhil Dessai said, “Goa started its journey as a tourism destination in the 1960s. The State has been rapidly progressing in various sectors under the leadership of our chief minister,” Dessai said.
