Student hurt in fire cracker explosion in HSS washroom

MAPUSA: A 16-year-old student studying in Std 11 in a higher secondary school at Mapusa was injured when a fire cracker exploded in the washroom of the school on Tuesday.

According to a reliable source, some pranksters had lit a fire cracker in the washroom, shortly before the boy went to the site to wash his face.
The boy sustained some injuries in the incident and school authorities rushed the boy to a private clinic at Mapusa, where he was administered medical treatment. The school staff later dropped the boy home at about 3 pm.
The source further informed that the boy complained to his mother that he had difficulty hearing through one ear.
When contacted, the principal of the higher secondary school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident and added that some pranksters had lit fire crackers in the toilet.
“The student fainted on hearing the loud sound of the firecracker. He was immediately offered medical treatment by the school and on receiving the doctor’s clearance that the student was well, he was dropped home. The school authorities have initiated an inquiry into the matter,” said the principal.
Meanwhile, Mapusa police confirmed that no police complaint had been filed in the matter.
