Student Protest Led by GPP and ABVP Goa Demands Swift Resolution to Various Campus Issues

Students from Government Polytechnic, Panaji, joined forces with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) Goa to stage a protest on their college campus, addressing a range of issues affecting the student community. Expressing frustration over what they perceive as the college management’s indifference, the students insist on immediate action and solutions.

Students emphasized the necessity for a permanent principal due to the current principal’s sporadic presence. Criticizing the principal’s handling of the matter, students claim to have submitted multiple letters with no response from the faculty. They stress the principal’s frequent absence from the office.

Concerns were raised about problematic college timings, particularly affecting those commuting from distant places. The limited availability of college buses, restricted to only one for the entire institution, exacerbates transportation challenges.

Female students pointed out the difficulties of arriving home late due to inadequate transportation options. They highlighted the absence of a pad dispenser, deemed essential for female students, leading to challenges during emergency situations and instances of harassment.

Students also drew attention to deteriorating classrooms and benches, emphasizing potential safety hazards. Broken benches with protruding nails, dilapidated wall cements, and the risk of debris falling on students during lectures are serious concerns.

One GPP student expressed, “Benches are broken with nails popping out. Pieces of wall cements have been dilapidated, and the debris falls on the students. If anything serious happens, who will be responsible for the situation?”

Students lamented the lack of proper maintenance despite the imposition of an 800-rupee development charge on students. This student-led protest aims to draw attention to the pressing issues within the college, urging swift and tangible solutions from the administration.
