MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Council and Janata HS jointly organised an awareness drive informing shopkeepers and vendors in the Mapusa market about the ban on single-use plastic on Thursday. Students, teachers and staff from the school participated in the drive. MMC chairman Ryan Braganza informed Herald that they are trying to enforce this ban by first educating and creating awareness on single-use plastics.
“In this connection, we have written to the schools, community halls, religious places, catering services and others informing them about this ban. Most schools in this jurisdiction will carry out an awareness drive on ban of single-use plastics in their respective areas,” Braganza said.
MMC had adopted a resolution to ban single-use plastic like straws and carry bags in its jurisdiction. This decision was taken after the Prime Minister called upon the nation to begin Swachhata Hi Sewa, a campaign on banning single-use plastic.
