MARGAO: In a recent educational initiative, students from Bethany Convent High School, Sao Jose de Areal, took part in an agricultural transplantation activity. The event, designed to provide hands-on experience in sustainable farming practices, saw students actively engage in transplanting young rice saplings.
Under the supervision of social science teachers Armando Gomes and Jefy Fernandes, the students learned about proper techniques for handling saplings, soil preparation, and irrigation methods. The activity emphasised the importance of crop care and the value of hard work in agriculture.
The practical nature of the task required students to work collaboratively, pay close attention to detail, and exert physical effort. This immersive experience offered valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of sustainable farming.
School officials noted that such activities play a crucial role in educating students about food production and environmental stewardship. They hope this experience will inspire a deeper appreciation for agriculture and potentially spark interest in sustainable practices among the young participants.
