MARGAO: The Council of Computer Department Engineering Students, Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, organized a guest seminar on “Cyber Crimes and Cyber Laws in India.”
Atmaram Deshpande, IPS, Superintendent of Police, was the resource person. The seminar was attended by second-year and third-year computer engineering students.
Deshpande highlighted the distinction between computer and cyber crimes and also stressed on the sensitivity of the issue, considering that students make consistent use of technology and Internet.
He explained to the students the types of crimes and modus operandi of most cyber criminals so that they are well prepared to prevent and protect themselves from such crimes. The Information Technology Act, 2008 with its various chapters and sections was also explained to the students.
The real life incidents and cyber crime cases presented by Deshpande gave the students an exposure to the dark side of cyberspace.
Rynelle Rocha compered and introduced the guest speaker while Marjie Rodrigues proposed the vote of thanks.
Director of Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fr Kinley D’Cruz and Principal, Dr C S Gokhale, were also present. The departmental faculty Amit Patil and Roseline Fernandes coordinated the seminar.
