Students put up traffic awareness float at Pernem Shigmo Parade

PERNEM: Gone are the days when school and college students took up projects and assignments based on their textbooks topics. What excites the students these days are civic problems which they seriously want to address and are concerned, especially about the rising incidents of accidents taking place in Goa.

In this context, students from Viscount High School Pernem and Bhagawati High School Pernem took part in the awareness of traffic rules at the Shigmo celebration held at Pernem. The traffic awareness delegation was led by Pernem Traffic Police Dnyaneshwar H Gawas.

Displaying posters and placards, the students took part in the Shigmo float and also distributed leaflets to the public, highlighting traffic guidelines. The main aim was to create awareness on road safety.

Speaking to Herald, student Sanjana Pednekar  from Viscount High School Pernem said “Today we are celebrating Shigmo and we are here to create awareness on traffic rules and we appeal to all to drive slowly and follow traffic rules.”

Another student Ashwini from Bhagawati High School Pernem said “Today we have participated  at the Shigmo parade with placards to make people aware of traffic rules. We want to tell all to drive slowly and not to drive in a negligent manner. These days we see a rise in accidents.”

Pernem Traffic Police  Dnyaneshwar H Gawas made an announcement at the Shigmo parade, saying “On behalf of all, I request you to drive your vehicles safely. Drive carefully, wear a helmet and seat belt. Everyone must help and follow traffic rules as there are rising cases of accidents.”

Gawas also announced that 80% of those who had died in accidents are from the age group of 16 to 35 years. He said if we all drive slowly and follow traffic rules, we together can save lives and decrease accidents. He appealed to all to cooperate and follow traffic rules.
