BORDA: Before of an audience of over 2,000 supporters, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar at Multipurpose College, Borda, while campaigning for Damu Naik, boasted about the BJP’s infrastructure boost in the field of education.
Pointing out at the bright white and brick red building of four-storey with state-of-the-art classrooms Parrikar said, “This is another highlight of my government. We dedicate this to the people and students of Margao but sadly we can’t inaugurate it.”
Little did we know that the Election Commission of India led by its CEO Kunal had identified the brand new fully complete building and the Multi-Purpose College campus for storage of EVMs, creation of a strong room for the EVMs and counting center for March 11 for all South Goa seats.
The brand new building sadly has got it windows welded and sealed with metal sheets and many additional CCTVs have been punched into the building making it a fortress.
One of the security personnel on duty explains to us, “It was good that Margao had a building like this, which is clean, tidy and brand new and to use for the elections storage and counting without disturbing any existing school or college like Bal Bhavan, Panjim.”
While office bearers of the Multi-Purpose College who are still in the old dilapidated wing are hoping that the military forces, police, politicians and supporters don’t damage, vandalize or spoil the brand new premises which is yet to be inaugurated and used by the students. “The government has such a massive late Matanhy Saldana Collectorate building to carry out election counting and its baffling we students are denied a new facility to use especially when it has brilliant facilities, good lighting, a massive new hall,” stated Adkrar Lotlikar.
