MAPUSA: To strengthen the bond between nature and man and to bring back the tree growing culture, ‘Vruksha Bandhan’ was celebrated across various schools in the State on Thursday. Students tied rakhis to trees as a symbolic gesture to create awareness among people to protect the trees.
This was an initiative by Revolutionary Goans calling upon students to pledge to protect the environment by tying a rakhi to the tree.
Revolutionary Goans Founder Member Manoj Parab told Herald that this was done to get back the bonding between the nature and man.
“There is a need to revive the tree growing culture that is slowly dying out. We aimed at getting people to pledge to protect the nature for the future generation.
“We tied rakhis to several trees on Thursday and will strive to protect them. We all should treat the trees like our brothers and should pray for the long life. This is just the beginning; many more activities are in the pipeline. We appeal to all the Goans to join us at greengoa.org and participate in large numbers,” Parab said.
“We celebrated Vruksha Bandhan and Rakhsha Bandhan at Keri forest outpost. There we tied many rakhis to trees and also tied rakhis to the staff and promised that we will be available for them whenever they need us. At the same time we also thanked them for supporting us in our green Goa initiative,” he added.
Vruksha Bandhan was celebrated at Keri forest department, Government Higher Secondary School in Sanquelim, Vijayanand Higher Secondary School Mayem, Shantadurga High School in Bicholim, Rosary High School in Navelim and few others places.
