MARGAO:Taking serious note of the increasing numbers of accidents on Goan roads, students of the Carmel Higher Secondary School, Nuvem,
appealed to the drivers and co-passengers of cars as well as KTC and
private buses to obey the traffic rules.
The students got an enthusiastic response from drivers, as they were expecting to be fined when they were flagged down, but instead got advice on safety from youngsters.
As part of the preparations for State Road Safety Week 2022, the students of Carmel Higher secondary under the guidance of GOACAN, organised awareness action on road safety issues, as road safety week is observed from October 10 to 16 in Goa.
The students, who were mobilised under the banner of the Consumer Welfare Club (CWC) of the HSS, enthusiastically participated in the Road Safety Awareness Action. This was possible due to the orientation they received during the Road Safety Patrol (RSP) training session organised by the Margao Traffic Cell and GOACAN.
Students carrying banners, placards and colourful flags appealed to two-wheeler riders to wear ISI marked helmets for their personal safety and make it a habit to fasten the helmet strap securely.
Students who were also witness to riders hurtling down the highway at excessive speeds have resolved to write to various authorities to install speed limit signages along the road in front of their institution and undertake an enforcement drive to control speed.
The HSS students were led by CWC Coordinators Debbie Pereira and Desiree Almeida and were supported by GOACAN volunteers, as well as and Assistant Sub Inspector Damodar Mistry of Traffic Cell Margao.
The CWC student volunteers have decided to create more awareness on Road Safety by activating the RSP on the campus and plan to take the road safety movement ahead in the second half of the academic year 2022-23.
