Students unhappy with Goa varsity revaluation

TALEIGAO: The Goa University students are upset over the revaluation issue. They said the fee for re-evaluation is hiked after every semester, and the students hope the matter will be taken up by the new students’ panel, which will be elected on August 26.

“Revaluation process at Goa University is very slow and the current fee structure for re-verification is Rs 500 per paper and the fee has been increasing after every semester” says Sankalp Mahale, a GU student.
Following an interaction with a section of students, it was revealed that they (the students) were an unhappy lot. What hurts them more is that the fees are non-refundable, even after the student has cleared the papers and it has been established that it was a teacher’s mistake.
Another student Digvesh Naik said it takes around two months for the revaluation results to come by and by then classes begin and students are at the receiving end.
“The fees keep increasing within short span. This isn’t correct. Once fixed, the fees should not be hiked for a span of at least four to five years,” said Praveen Rebello.
Some student’s mentioned that the fee structure was not acceptable to the students’ community, as there is financial and also other problems and further mentioning that the state of affairs, when it comes to declaring results of the revaluation, some results take around 3-4 months and in such an inordinate delay, it is totally unacceptable to the student community suffer.
“The university charges Rs 500 for one application “If they are charging so much, why can’t they deliver on time? Students have to separately fill the form for the re-examination. If these students clear the exam in the revaluation, then why should they not get their fees refunded,” asked Ashit Verneker, conveyer Together for Goa University independent panel.
He added that the issue will be raised in the upcoming Goa University Students Council (GUSC) elections on August 26.
“On several occasions, students refrain from revaluation because of the high cost involved. Despite assurances from the University authorities, that they would take the necessary action, nothing has been done till now,” says Edeana Fernandes, a post-grad student at GU.
Sources said the revaluation results are delayed as the university has to outsource teachers from outside Goa to re-examine the papers. The students demand that this issue should be taken up before the new Vice-Chancellor and necessarily action should be taken immediately.
