MARGAO: The Goa Su Raj party has demanded that the government take up the work of the new kabrastan for Margao’s Muslim community on utmost priority and also give alternate land for the legal heirs of Aninha Fernandes in lieu of the land acquired for the burial grounds at Sonsodo.
Party general secretary Savio Rodrigues said the government should immediately take into account the steep gradient at the acquired land, and develop the acquired land after rectifying the errors. “Two long years have been wasted by doing nothing on the acquired land. The issue should not be politicised. The government should not go by the people who have not even inspected the site,” he said, while appealing to the government to take note of the grievances of the petitioner before the National Commission of Minorities Abdulmatin Carol.
Savio also demanded an inquiry into the tender floated for the construction of the retaining wall at the Pajfiond Kabrastan. “The tender was floated for Rs 2.8 crore, but only actual work to the tune of Rs 1.20 crore was carried out. The government should tell the status of the balance amount of Rs 88 lakh,” he demanded.
Abdulmatin Carol accused former Chief Minister Digmabar Kamat of misusing the Muslim community, unlike Congress leaders Francisco Sardinha, Luizinho Faleiro and Pratapsing Rane who took the community into confidence. He said the land acquired for kabrastan at Sonsodo should be easily accessible and the authorities should also cap the foul odour emanating from the waste dumping site.
