MARGAO: Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza on Friday instructed acting South Goa district Collector, Venancio Furtado to put up before him the manpower deficiencies in the Colllectorate as well as other revenue offices in the district.
D’Souza, who also holds the Revenue portfolio, was closeted with the new Collector for quite some time, wherein he is believed to have reviewed the manpower situation and the status of revenue cases in the district. “The outgoing collector has just retired and I thought it fit to have an interaction with the new collector. I just dropped in at the district Collectorate to check with the staff problems, for I believe that if work is to be quick, adequate staff is required to do the same”, he told Herald.
The minister said he has asked Furtado to put up the manpower deficiencies in respect of the Awal Karkuns, circle inspectors, and other staff and the status of the departmental promotional avenues to the existing staff. “I have also checked up with the Collector the number of vacancies that need to be filled up by the government. I will get a correct picture of the manpower position after a week’s time,” he said.
When his attention was drawn to his statement made during his visit to the Collectorate a couple of months ago to expedite and dispose off revenue cases in the district, D’Souza said the government has just recruited the Mamlatdars, who would help to clear the backlog of tenancy and other cases. “To expedite cases, you require manpower. Our recruitment to appoint mamlatdars is just over. Things will hopefully change once the Mamlatdars and the Awal Karkuns take up their postings,” he said.
