MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council has announced its success in the much larger goal of getting segregated garbage from bulk garbage generators. MMC now believes that things will fall in place with this line of work but has no clue on what to do with the plant at Sonsoddo.
The Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council, Babita Angle, said that a lot of directives have been given by the council on the garbage front and the thrust is on segregation of household waste. “We have been asked to identify bulk waste generators. We will now target party halls, hotels, Government and private multi-dwelling quarters for bulk garbage generation,” she said.
When asked of their awareness and request language not being received, the Chief Officer of MMC, Siddhivinayak Naik, said, “It is not that it is not possible. We have got people getting waste segregated. If they are adamant we can go to that extent of heavy fines and also sealing off-premises,” warned Chief Officer.
When asked what the MMC will do with the segregated garbage when it reaches the plant, the Chairperson said, “We have issues with the person who is treating our waste at the plant. We are planning to have to talk with the Fomento over this.” Manual segregation has to be started by Fomento at the plant, Babita added further.
