PANJIM: The Kadamba Transport Corporation employees’ union has accused successive governments of giving step-motherly treatment to the corporation, causing financial crisis since its inception. They have demanded immediate doubling of the government subsidy to overcome the crisis.
The KTC Drivers and Allied Employees Association, while listing out a series of demands, has urged government to double the annual subsidy to KTC from the existing Rs 30 crore to Rs 60 crore, in a bid to overcome the financial crisis.
“Despite the assurance to help the corporation to overcome the financial crisis, government pays a pittance of Rs 2.5 crore per month as subsidy to KTC. Hence we demand that the subsidy per month be doubled to Rs 5 crore,” association general secretary Christopher Fonseca told media persons on Friday.
“The successive governments have meted out step-motherly treatment to KTC since its inception. There has been total failure on the part of every government to support and help the Corporation that provides better quality public service,” he added.
Apart from their long-pending demands of payment of VI pay arrears, regularization of daily wage workers, safeguarding interest of workers, the Association has now come with a new demand which includes additional 300 new buses to the existing fleet, more nationalized routes, increase in annual budgetary allocation and rooting out corruption.
