BICHOLIM: The residents of Tikhajan in Mayem were surprised to see a large number of ducks suddenly appearing in their village, last week.
According to the locals, the incident occurred on Thursday when the residents from Tikhajan spotted more than 100 ducks making their presence felt in the village.
However, the ducks became easy prey for dogs that started feasting on them.
With presence of mind some of the residents we’re able to drive away the dogs and save these ducks. There was a lot of commotion in the village due to the ducks; a villager caught some of the ducks and kept them in his custody.
Later, the people reported the matter to the forest department whose officers swung into action. Forest officer Girish Baidurkar investigated the matter and learnt that the ducks belonged to a person from a nearby village and they had strayed into the locality.
The owner had recently bought several ducks from Tamil Nadu and some of them had disappeared. The owner was frantically searching for them. At last the forest department did the legal formalities and handed over the ducks to its rightful owner.
