CANACONA: Saturday and Sunday being a weekend and Tuesday being a public holiday the world famous Palolem Beach saw a sudden arrival of many domestic tourists in their own vehicles. This caused the narrow lane leading to the beach to be overwhelmed with vehicles causing a long traffic jam on the 1 km stretch leading to the beach.

“Normally traffic police personnel stop vehicles at the entrance of Palolem and make them park in the parking area in the fields at the outskirts of Palolem village but on Sunday all these vehicles headed towards the beach leading to the blockage of the beach road,” said Socky Da Silva, a local resident of Palolem.

There was total chaos with all the vehicles heading towards Palolem, no one had any idea whether they would have parking or not and this has created a total traffic jam and everyone got stuck up for long duration, said Da Silva.

“In spite of the Palolem beach road being narrow, the vehicles are allowed to be parked for long duration by the road by the Traffic Police of Canacona”, he added.

He requested the Canacona traffic police to monitor the incoming vehicles on weekends and suggested vehicles from other States to be stopped at the outskirts of Palolem.
