PANJIM: Former PWD Minister Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar has accused the ministers of not abiding by the austerity measures imposed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Addressing a press conference at Azad Maidan in the capital on Wednesday, Sudin alleged that PWD tenders worth several crores of rupees are floated despite ministers being aware about the financial crunch owing to COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown.
“The ministers are blatantly going against the austerity measures. One example is tenders of crores of works are being floated. If the situation is not brought under control then the next three months will see the government without money to pay even the salaries of its employees,” he said.
Sudin was amongst the first to demand austerity measures on the same lines as other States, to reduce State expenses. He also sought for reducing cabinet ministers and curtailing unwanted expenditure.
He slammed the restrictions imposed VPK Urban Co-op Credit Society without a proper inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the functioning of the Society.
“It is a reliable Society. Everyone knows the real reason on the fall of the Society. The government should properly check on their assets, deposits, loan verification, etc, before taking any such decision,” he said, while adding that the Society has produced good results in the past.
