Sudin lambasts Churchill for stalling projects while in power

Says in three years he has brought projects worth more than Rs 10,000 crore to Goa; Matanhy’s dream project gets underway at Cansaulim

VASCO: Lashing out at the previous government, of which he was a member, and targeting former PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, current PWD Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar said that in the last three years of BJP government he managed to bring developmental projects worth Rs 10,000 crore which was not done by any former PWD minister.
“I have no idea as why the former PWD minister (Alemao) used to keep the projects pending. I have gone through the records and found that from 2007 to 2010, the former PWD minister did not tender any major work. It was only in mid-2010 that he actually tendered some projects but could not execute them. After I took over the PWD I went through the pending files and noticed discrepancies and made several corrections. Today I am proud to say that I managed to save more than Rs 40 crore in the projects which he (Churchill) had tendered but remained unexecuted,” Dhavalikar said.
Patting his own back, Dhavalikar said that he has created history by becoming the first PWD minister to bring development works worth more than Rs 10,000 crore. “It’s all because of hard efforts by me and support given by former chief minister Manohar Parrikar that I could succeed in bringing projects for all of Goa,” he said.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a foundation stone laying function for a road widening project at Cansaulim on Thursday evening.
Addressing the gathering the Environment and Forests Minister Alina Saldanha said that the proposed work of MDR 38 which originates from Cansaulim and joins Verna connecting many coastal villages was a dream project of her late husband Matanhy Saldanha but was delayed as it was proposed under the Central Roads fund.
“Many people accused me of deliberately delaying the project and were also speaking against me that I took up work of some other road but not this road, but instead of answering them I would like to only say that this project was delayed because the same was proposed under different schemes,” she said.
