PANJIM: PWD Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar on Tuesday took a U-turn on his day-old statement about being ‘mentally prepared’ to take over the Chief Minister’s responsibility, blaming the media for asking the question.
“This is not right time to talk about the Chief Minister. I was responding to a question by the media. I did not raise the issue. I had said that if people like my work they will make me Chief Minister sometime,” Dhavalikar told Herald.
Dhavalikar on Monday had said he was mentally prepared to take over the responsibility of leading the coalition government in the State. “If people are happy with my work then I am mentally prepared to take over the responsibility as Chief Minister,” he had said.
In the absence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, in February Dhavalikar had been nominated leader of the House during the Budget session.
Parrikar has been in USA since March 7 for medical treatment. In his absence, a three Minister CAC has been guiding the State administration.  “Chief Minister will be in Goa by the end of June and the current government will complete its term of five years under his leadership,” Dhavalikar said.
There has been speculation about a possible MGP merger with BJP with a deal to make Dhavalikar the Chief Minister. However, MGP president Deepak Dhavalikar tried to put such speculation at rest by stating that the party will not merge.
