PANJIM: Stating that every good thing comes at a price, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said that no final decision has been taken with regards the road closure from Cortalim to Verna.
Citizens across Goa have criticised the PWD department as well the government for closing the road for one year from Cortalim to Verna for construction of Zuari bridge.
Replying to queries at a press conference, Sudin said there is a proposal from the company but no decision has been taken.
“I have received a from the contractor as they want to close the road as the deadline for completion of bridge is December 2019 and no extension for that would be given,” he said.
Dhavailakr said that it is only a proposal from the company as of now and no decision is reached.
“I along with the engineers of PWD will meet the Ministry of Road and Surface Transport (MoRST) and impress upon them the side-effects of the closure,” he said.
He said similar issues were there with Khandepar bridge and I explained to them and they agreed.
“I will tell them maybe they should close only when required and not full time,” he said.
However, Dhavalikar said that the Centre has been very kind to Goa as it has sanctioned about Rs 15000 cr for Goa for development works.
“Every good thing comes at a price so Goans may have to bear some issues pertaining to development and once these projects are completed life will become very comfortable,” he said.
Traffic diversion is proposed from Birla junction via Sancoale village to facilitate the ongoing works of NH17 between Verna and Cortalim.
The diversion would increase the travel on Verna-Cortalim- Panjim and vice versa route by 18 kilometers and cause immense hardship to the commuters.
