Sudin’s meet with Fadnavis raises speculation on MGP-BJP alliance

Dhavalikar refutes that the meeting was with regards to alliance; CM says decision will be taken after talks

PANJIM: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leader and Marcaim MLA Ramakrishna Dhavalikar’s meeting with BJP’s Goa election in-charge Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on Monday night, has raised speculation on possible alliance between the two parties for the upcoming 2022 elections.

Hours later in Goa, while responding to a question whether Dhavalikar and BJP will be together in the new government, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said, “The decision will be taken after talks”. Interestingly, Dhavalikar was with Sawant when the statement was made with the former not objecting to the comment.

Fadnavis will be in Goa on Wednesday to oversee the preparations for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit on October 14.

When asked, Dhavalikar confirmed meeting Fadnavis but refuted that the meeting was with regards to alliance. “I am meeting all those leaders who want to meet me. Fadnavis is also one amongst them…he is also a leader and what is there if I met him,” he questioned.

“But we discussed nothing on alliance…there were no talks,” he said informing that he will also be meeting AICC Goa desk in-charge Dinesh Gundu Rao and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat. While Dhavalikar was interacting with media persons outside State Assembly complex, the Chief Minister interrupted the briefing.

When asked about the Assembly elections, Sawant said, “We both (he and Dhavalikar) will continue to be MLAs in the new government…Dhavalikar has also said it….we are MLAs now and we will be MLAs in the new government”.

When asked whether both the leaders will be together in the new government, Sawant, with a smile said, “That decision will be taken after talks”.

The MGP leaders including Dhavalikar and party president Deepak have repeatedly said the party will not forge any alliance with BJP as the saffron party has betrayed them thrice.
