PONDA: After threatening to intensify the agitation against the government, Goa Uss Utpadak Sanghatana (Sugarcane Producers Association) has decided to convene a meeting after December 5, to draft the future course of action.
The association had given an ultimatum to the government to clarify their stance on the proposed ethanol project at Sanjivani Sugar Factory.
Association chairman Rajendra Desai said that the union will take further decisions after the government constituted Facilitation Committee’s meeting.
“A contractor had completed all the procedures to start an ethanol project at Sanjivani Sugar Factory. He was also ready to pay Rs 1.25 crore as annual rent to the government but the authorities have not made their intentions clear. We had warned the government of holding an agitation at the meeting that took place on November 17 but since Sugarcane Farmers Facilitation Committee is scheduled after December 5, we have decided to wait until then,” Rajendra Desai said.
Meanwhile, he also added that the amount of subsidies for this year has not made it to some farmers’ bank accounts and urged the government to look into it at the earliest.
