sanguem: The pre-monsoon showers which lashed pats of the State for around an hour on two different days, left the citizens from most of parts of Sanguem taluka without water and power supply since Monday night, the day the shower hit their area.

The citizens were also surprised that this happened with the first shower itself.

The disruption of the water supply was reportedly on account of the power failure at Xelpem Power Station. Sources informed that a transformer was severely damaged due to the thunder and lightning.

Incidentally due to power failure, the pumping facility at the Xelpem Water Treatment Plant  which supplies to most parts of South Goa was severely affected leading to disruption of water supply at Xelpem Water Treatment Plant leading to no water supply to Sanguem Taluka and most parts of South Goa.

A large number of people went to the nearby river to get water for domestic use. The water supply was restored on Tuesday evening.

Officials at the Xelpem Water Treatment Plant said water supply to the affected areas in South Goa is also restored and the same will reach the town areas by Tuesday night.

Similarly, power supply, which affected Curchorem as well also, took some time before it was restored. While some areas got power back in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, other areas got it late in the evening.
