Panjim/Vagator: A day after the reports of illegal party by Sunburn Club went viral; Minister for Environment Nilesh Cabral on Friday said that he would not hesitate to demolish the Club structure if any illegality is found.
The Sunburn Club was sealed on December 18, 2020 for illegal work by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority.
However, on December 29, GCZMA directed the Sunburn club at Ozran beach to be de-sealed as to allow the owners to remove perishable items on their request.
However, taking GCZMA respite under the disguise of losses, the owners organised a huge New Year’s Eve party on December 31 at the said club.
Locals said that even before the premises were de-sealed the organisers had distributed flyers of New Year’s Eve event indicating the owners knew they would get permission to open.
Reacting to the development, Cabral stated that GCZMA had allowed the club to be de-sealed on humanitarian grounds.
“GCZMA gave permission on humanitarian grounds as there were perishable items inside but if it was misused to organise New Year parties, then the other authorities should have acted on it,” he said.
Nonetheless, he added, their case is slated for January 7 at GCZMA and if there is any illegality as alleged by locals, the club will be demolished.
“I assure that the club would be demolished, if any illegality found,” he said.
GCZMA had directed the Deputy Collector Mapuisa, Bardez to stop the illegal construction going in property survey no 213/18 of Ozran, Vagator and also to seal the premises.
Based on the order Deputy Collector & SDO Mapusa sealed the said premises on December 18, 2020 and submitted the compliance report to this Authority.
Surprisingly, the same authority issued directions for desealing on December 29, 2020.
”This Authority is in receipt of an application dated 28-12-2020 from Dennis Shivani, Designated Partner that there are perishable items in the premises and if the same are not removed in time then there are chances that said perishable item will be spoiled,” the order states.
GCZMA says it is of the opinion that the request made by the applicant seems to be genuine and in order to safeguard the interest and to stop incurring losses, the premises needs to be de-sealed.
“Therefore, Deputy Collector & SDO Mapusa is hereby directed to de-seal the property on receipt of this order and submit a compliance report within 48 hrs,” it said.
