Sunburn Festival Schedule Altered Following Opposition and Traffic Concerns

The annual Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) festival at Vagator faced mounting opposition from local businessmen and villagers over plans to extend the event to four days this month. However, a statement from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has allayed fears, confirming that the festival won’t be held on December 31.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant intervened, providing assurance that Sunburn would not be held on December 31. Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo conveyed this assurance to the people of Anjuna, highlighting that the festival’s website indicates an extension to include the 31st.

Locals voiced concerns about the festival’s impact, particularly the traffic chaos persisting for three hours after Sunburn concludes at 10 PM. Lobo emphasized the clash with local customs, noting that on the night of the 31st, Catholics attend midnight New Year’s mass while restaurants and shacks rely on the business during this time. Any traffic disruptions could significantly affect their revenue.
