Sunburn granted in-principle approval

RFC and Iron Man are among the few other festivals which have been granted in-principle approval, with GTB insisting on Goan branding

PANJIM: The Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) festival, if granted final approval, will have a local flavour this time, as the Goa Tourism Board (GTB) has set its terms and conditions before the organisers to include Goan talent for the event.

The GTB, chaired by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and co-chaired by Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, granted in-principle approval to host the festival, which could be spread over four days.

“The government will not take Sunburn festival as EDM only, because we want Goan culture and Goan talent to be showcased. Extend this festival to four days (against the usual three days) but a Goan theme has to be included. We want that local artists are also given a platform to showcase their talent to the world,” Khaunte told reporters after the meeting on Wednesday.

Detailed proposals have been sought from the organisers, which will then be placed before the government for the final go-ahead.

The Board also discussed about challenges ahead of the commissioning of the first phase of Mopa airport.
