PANJIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Monday said that the Department of Tourism has decided to grant provisional licence to organisers of the Sunburn Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festival for three days from 4 pm to 10 pm only and not up to
midnight as sought by the organisers.
Speaking to reporters after chairing a meeting of the empowered committee, Khaunte said, “There is much hue and cry about Sunburn for the last month. Today it has been decided that permission be given to Sunburn organisers to hold the event on December 28, 29 and 30. They had applied for holding the event from 4 pm to midnight but we have permitted them to hold the event from 4 pm to 10 pm only.”
“The empowered committee decided to give the organiser provisional approval so that they could obtain NOCs from other departments,” he said.
When asked whether there will be a Goan village, a platform for Goan artisans in the festival like last year, he said, “We will also watch what the organisers do.”
The Tourism Minister said those who want to organise such events next year must apply in January. “Nobody should take the government for granted. If anybody wants to organise these types of events, he or she should apply for permission in January of that year,” Khaunte said.
The Minister said the empowered committee also discussed the Heritage Home Stay Policy 2023 and sent the policy to the government for its approval. The policy will give sanctity to the old homes in the State and the government will be able to promote the Goa culture, he added.
