Sunday turns weekly market day for Ponda migrants

PONDA: Since several decades Saturday and Wednesday are the two weekly market days at Ponda market. Many locals from Ponda Taluka visit Ponda market to buy their daily requirement and several vendors make available their bagayatdar produce on both weekly market days. 

But now in recent times due to growing migrant population settled in Ponda on account of job opportunities at construction site and industrial estates, Sunday has been slowly turning as third weekly market day in Ponda market.

This labour force gets weekly off only on Sunday and therefore these labourers gather in large numbers at Ponda market on Sunday for shopping. Thus Sunday has automatically become another special weekly market days for migrant labourers. They buy the goods once on Sunday for their weekly requirement.

Considering the demands for goods, the local vendors have now also started bringing their bagayatdar products for selling on Sunday, thus making a third weekly market day in Ponda market.
