Supermarket near SGPDA Market gutted in early morning blaze

MARGAO: A massive fire broke out in a supermarket near the SGPDA Market in Margao, which destroyed a huge quantity of goods stored inside. The cause for the fire is believed to be an electrical short-circuit. The estimate of the loss is yet to be made; but is expected to run into lakhs of rupees. 

The incident was reported to the fire station at 6.45 am after people noticed smoke emanating from the basement of Eastern Supermarket. The supermarket sells stationary besides several other goods. Gil Souza, Fire Officer, Margao, told reporters that they took control over the blaze using two fire tenders. “When we reached the site, it was difficult to find the origin of the fire as the smoke was coming out from the basement of the building,” he said.
