Surcharged atmosphere in Cuncolim Municipal Council over no-confidence motion

CUNCOLIM: The atmosphere in Cuncolim Municipal Council (CMC) has heated up after a motion of no-confidence was brought against CMC Chairman Laxman Naik. Seven councillors from opposition leader Yuri Alemao’s group, with support of independent councillors, have moved a no-confidence motion against their own CP Dr Laxman Naik. Eight of the fourteen councillors have signed in support of the motion.

Director of DMA has called a meeting to discuss the no-confidence motion on today, Tuesday, June 27 at 11 am.

The councillors who brought the no-confidence motion have alleged that the opposition councillors had made a move to prevent the no-confidence motion and to protect CP Laxman Naik. Opposition Councillors claim that timely intervention from political leaders has spoiled the move if opposition and forced DMA to withdraw postponement of no confidence motion meeting.

On Monday, DMA issued orders to the Chief Officer of Cuncolim Municipal Council and the presiding officer to postpone the motion Scheduled on Tuesday.

Reason mentioned by DMA for postponement is five BJP-supported councillors Videsh Dessai, Vishal Dessai, Polita Carnero, Rupa Gaonkar and Rahul Desai are going for training to New Delhi and will not be able to attend the meeting. Within two hours of this order, DMA issued a fresh order saying no-confidence motion meeting will be held as per schedule on Tuesday.
